To become a notary in Nevada, you must:

  • 1- Be a resident of Nevada or a resident of a bordering state who is regularly employed or maintains a place of business in Nevada.

  • 2- Be at least 18 years of age.

  • 3- Have your civil rights restored if you have ever been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude.

  • 4- Have completed a notary course of study pursuant to NRS 240.018.

Steps to Become a Notary in Nevada

To become a notary public in Nevada, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements listed above and then complete the seven steps listed below:

Step 1- Order a four-year, $10,000 Nevada notary bond

Nevada requires all notary applicants to obtain a four-year, $10,000 notary bond before applying for a notary appointment. The notary bond protects the public from unintentional notary's errors and omissions. Step 2- Obtain a filing notice

Go to the county clerk's office in the county in which you reside to file your notary bond, take the oath of office, and obtain a filing notice. Nonresident applicants can obtain their filing notice in the county in which they maintain a place of business or are employed.

Step 3- Complete the notary training and pass the notary exam

Enroll in the State of Nevada Notary Public Course.  After successfully passing the course, take and pass the State of Nevada Notary Public Commission Exam. There is a $45 notary exam fee you must pay when submitting your notary application. If you fail the notary exam, you will have to wait 24 hours before registering for the exam again.

Step 4- Complete an application for appointment

Create an account on the Nevada Secretary of State’s business portal (SilverFlume) to complete an application for appointment. Once you have filled out the application, print it and sign it and save it as a PDF file.

Step 5- Upload the required documents

Upload a PDF file of your filing notice, training certificate, and signed notary application for appointment to your SilverFlume account and pay the $35 application fee and the $45 training course fee.

Step 6- Purchase Nevada notary supplies
